Hi,

I want to copy my old MiniDisc's onto my PC.

I thought i could do it with what i have but i can't get it to work so i'm guessing i need something else and i have no idea what! 🙂

I have connected a SONY CAV-U5 usb digital converter to the USB port on my comp and to the digital in port on my SONY CMT-CP505MD stereo.

After doing this i have a feeling that you can only play throguh the stereo.. but is there a way to copy onto the computer?

Many thanks!!

From the look of it, the Sony CAV-U5 is a DAC and will therefore allow you to output sound from your computer via USB to your hi-fi, but can't accept a digital signal and send this to your PC for recording.

What you need is something like the Edirol UA-1EX which has a digital input and will allow you to plug a Minidisc player into this via the 3.5mm digital input and then record this on to your PC (see page 37 of the manual).

Not sure if there's a cheaper device which will offer the same functionaility so you might want to have a look around first.
