MF amplification

My quandry is this , I am looking to upgrade my amp probably thru the 2nd hand market . My dilema is if I had for instance a budget of 1500 do i go for the likes of the A5 pre/power combo which retails at 3 grand or do i pay same money for KW 500/550 which retails for 4/5 grand ??? The later only ( I say"only"lightly ) an integrated . Would i get more sound out of the pre/power combo or would the more expensive integrated shine thru and show me wot i'm missing ? It kinda screams at me that the obvious choice is the KW but i'm baffled as to whether pre/power or pre/mono's is better than integrated ? any help ??
