looking at setting up a new sound system, have already got lcd tv plus blue ray dvd.was looking at

marantz cd 6002 £200

onkyo 606 £400

m.s mezzo 6 floorstanders £500

m.s mezzo 5 centre £300

was going to start with this set up and add a sub and rears when i can save up some more cash(without the missus finding out).will be 50/50 music/movies.

two questions

is the onkyo 606 any good for music?or would you suggest a different make/model/set up

is it powerful enough to power the mezzo 6s?

total intial budget is around £1500

any feedback is much appreciated
Andrew says you can't bi-amp a 606.
No he doesn't. You can biamp the front left and right speakers in a 5.1 system with the 606, simply by reassigning the rear surround channels.

What you can't do is use the 606 in tandem with a stereo amplifier, as it doesn't have preouts for the front left and right channels.

Biwire - separate runs of cable for the bass and treble sections of a speaker, driven from a single amp output.

Biamp - separate amplifier channels for the bass and treble sections of a speaker.

I'd use biamping in any circumstances where there are biwirable terminals on the speakers, and sufficient amp channels are available to do it.

No, you use all five speakers and a subwoofer, in the case of the Onkyo we already mentioned.

You just biamp the front left and right speakers by reassigning the power amps nornally used for the surround back channels

No, as the Audiolab only has two channels of amplification. But you can biwire.

To biamp with the Audiolab you'd need to add an 8000P power amp, too.
