Hey getting sick and tierd of the PS3 not being able to read file or stuttering even though I have a 13mb connection, and sometimes even when I convert, its rare but sometimes messes up.

What is the best media streamer, as I cant afford popcorn hour as its well over 100.00.

Is WD TC Live the best for this price?

It needs to stream up to 1080p and up to DTS, not worried about HD audio really

Thanks

just get a NAS drive with built in server and put twonky on it. as this streams most files types in there original format, i have a lot of flac files and as yet windows media does not support this through streaming, which is why i use twonky

http://www.twonky.com/products/twonkyserver/default.aspx

Is your Nas? gonna be hard wired to your amp?

I dont know what a NAS drive is, or how to work it.

The sony bdp 370 says its dlna and I tried twonkey, and it did not pick up half the files.

I cant believe that sony will offer MKV support for the 370 but not for the ps3, even though they say its a media streamer

NAS is networked attached storage, bassically a hard drive which you conect to your router, some have servers built in so you can use, say "bit torrent" software without having to have your pc on.

I believe your amp is fully networked, so all you need is storage to feed it, have mine hard wired to router and get no stutter whatsoever.

can you stream 1080p HD to your amp/tv/bluray

My amp wont play MKV files, only audio from what I know.

And the Sony BDP 370 is very unstable with certain MKV files.

My amp is attached to my router, and so is the sony,

Anything else I can do? Is there a way of playing MKV files on my amp?

The WD tv live is great for the money but for the additional £60 or £70, I would save for the PCH A-200, especially as the new jukebox came out yesterday for the C-200 (which means maybe a 2 week wait for me now). It's a fantastic product.

If you dont mind me asking what does the A200 do that the WD doesnt? as the WD can be had for 80.00 and the popcorn hour is 150.00

Shame you cant save up for the d-link boxee box (£199)

http://www.boxee.tv/

http://www.dlink.com/boxee/

User interface looks as good as apple tv but without the limitations ie flac, 1080p mkv files, hd audio etc, im saving up for one as i have apple tv but want to have access to all sorts of file formats.

Seen someone go on about serviio for the 370, might try that.

All I want is something to stream 1080p movies from my PC to my TV without converting or messing about.

Reading reviews, its never that straight forward.

Maybe someone smarter than me should sort a streaming program for the 370, that will stream everything.

As sony does say its MKV compatible, but i have not been sucsessful

http://www.conceiva.com/products/mezzmo/default.asp

Have a look at above link.

was reading this on another forum

Dude Mezzmo FTW!!

Ok so my Sony bdp-bx7 blue ray player has DLNA on it so i can transfer movies off my computer wirelessly! unfortunately it only allows mpeg2 movie formats
And I got tired of trying to find or convert to the right format for my Sony and i have 250gigs of movies on my external hard drive in everything from .avi to flash!
So i tried a bunch of commercial DLNA servers that had those fly-by transcoders but none of um worked with my Sony or my computer!!
i spent weeks trying everything from "Fuppes" to "Twonky" and none of um were compatible except for "Mezzmo"
Actually to tell you the truth even Mezzmo wasn't compatible at first...And the worst part was they said on there new release they supported Sony blue ray players!!
so i email them to see what the deal was?!
And honestly i really didn't think ide hear anything but 10 minutes later i get a response!

"Hi Brandon,

Can you please try this updated device profile:

You'll need to:
1) Stop your server and close down Mezzmo
2) Copy all .prf files from the archive to DeviceProfiles folder (see this thread for its location:
3) Start the server and try again

Also, if it doesn't work, please go to Media Devices dialog in Mezzmo and change your device profile for your BDP to one with "No DivX" in the title. Check if that helps and please let me know how it goes.

Let me know if you need further help.

Best regards

Paul

Conceiva"

so i install everything and just like that im streaming all my movies through my sony!!
after weeks of messing with my blue ray and trying to find a DLNA server that would work on my computer and sony and do fly-by transcoding i finally found it!!
HELL YEA!!
sorry i just got this working like half an hour ago and still pretty excited
anywayz "Mezzmo" is definitely worth trying

It may help i dunno???

I cant understand how Sony is allowed to get away with their claims,

They says it has MKV support, but have not seen one person that has been able to stream this format with no problems.

Thanks Nickolp, I will also try both when I get home and see how I get on

if you get it installed go into the media server settings and change all options to let your amp/buray to do the transcoding.

Just tried all types of file, video does not work for me, my onk does not support that, i dont think?????? let me know how you get on

dont forget to allow your device, under media devices

i only tried divx files it is supposed to support that, does when played through the lx52 but not streaming. it is after all only a codec such as DTSmasterHD e.t.c so you would of thought it should play it whatever the source. Bit off topic but i was gutted when i wiped an external hard drive managed to convert to fat32(250gb not normally possible, so took bit of research) and put all my photo's and divx files on, hooked up through LX-52BD, did it work did it F#@K! what was the point of putting that usb on there. It's about time manufacturers got this sorted, if it says on the tin it can do it, it should do exactly that, no matter where the material comes from, hard drive, usb stick, disc and so on.

MKV and M2TS are the biggest and most used file format besides divx/avi

Why are they taking so long to make sure things are compatible.

EG:

The PS3 is a blu-ray media centre/games system thats how sony market it, but when you back-up one of your blu-ray discs, what format does it get encoded to.................. MKV or M2TS.

Seems pointless.

Ah, but you see Sony - being a studio as well as a consumer electronics company - probably isn't terribly keen on you 'backing up' your DVDs and Blu-rays, not least because doing so is just the teensiest bit illegal.

I've tried a few media players over the past couple of years and the A-200 is easily the best. It's functionality over the WD Live is obvious after a few seconds. The remote control is much better the interface is clearer and response is immediate and not clunky like others. It plays everything! Firmware updates are much much better - other machines just don't have any. The PCH forum is very helpful and there are thousands of users. And as mentioned before, the new jukebox looks superb. When the A-200 gets upgraded on the next fortnight I'll post a YouTube clip of it in action.

I used to play games on my PS3 but dont anymore, well not really, I do play Call of Duty games, but do I keep the PS3 just for that?

Also the last time I played a game was about 4 months ago, the rest its just used as a media streamer.

I said to the wife can I sell it and buy this popcorn hour.

SHE WENT ...................

emotion-14.gif
emotion-50.gif
emotion-60.gif
All in that order, as she bought it for me about 2 years ago.

I got my use out of it, and now I want to move on. I cant afford the popcorn hour, unless I buy it myself, which will take about 2 months of saving, as Dave sold me some RXFX and I only have 100.00 left over.

Might keep that 100.00 and wait for some hopefull x-mas money from my dad in canada, as he always send me a few bills.

jeez you're talking about saving for two months. Surely that can't be difficult to do....

there are also guides available on the net for who to rip and get stuff playing on a PS3

2 months is a long time in the world of me.

Anyway downloaded a trial of mezzmo and it seems to be doing quite well on all files, apart from 1080p dts lord of the rings, it wont even look at it.

WDTV Live is £83 and will play anything. If you want to pass through DTS-HD though you will need a more expensive Media Streamer such as Popcorn A200 for £160

Not for long it looks like the government are going to change this very soon and making backup files of your dvd's and being able to play them for personal use is going to be legal
