Dear All, hello from Greece,

I would apreciate some advise,

My setup, includes a marantz sr7010, a 5.1.2 speaker system: Dali Opticon 6 FL/FR - Opticon Vokal - Zensor 1 SR - Zensor Pico TM(atmos) - SVS SB2000 sub. The marantz is driving the system very well as the listening position is 10feet, so no need for extra power (i think). I enjoy the system very much both for movies and music.

But i want an upgrade for the music (2 channel) part. I was thinking for the addition of an integrated amp with HT passthrough + Network streamer ( my main source of music is a NAS witch streams my music library flac - dsd). Do you think that a pm8005 will be a good upgrade? or the sr7010 is already good enough and i might need a higher step up (maybe pm14s1) to get an audible diference ?

thanks in advance

Been dilly dallying between the Yamaha aventage line and marantz sr7010. Even iam considering adding a pm8005 in the future for my front left and right floor Stander's to improve stereo sound. But after a hell lot of research, I've come to a conclusion, that if you fees your preamp outs from the sr7010 to pm8005, there shouldn't be much of a difference in sound quality. So better to feed your source of music, directly into the pm8005, if your source has analogy outs. If not , invest in a decent DAC to get the best out of the marantz pm8005. But connecting your sources to the sr7010, will hardly give you much difference, as you will be still using same dac in the sr7010. And the amp sections in the sr7010 I'm two channel mode or good enough on the power front.

This is just my 2 cents after reading several forums.

I agree.

Feed your music sources directly into the "proper stereo" amplifier and use the preamp outputs from the 7010 to feed the AVR or Aux inputs on the "proper stereo" amp.

Connect your front left and front right speakers to the "proper stereo" amp and use both it and the 7010 for TV and movies.

Otherwise your just strangling the music sources with the 7010's DAC, pre and (more likely) power amps.

Thats exactly what i want to do.

I want to feed the PM8005 with a network streamer NA6005 and a UD7007 analog conected to pm8005 for cd playing and hdmi conected to sr7010 for blu rays. So music directly to pm8005 as an integrated amp, and TV - blu ray - media player directly to 7010 using 8005 only as poweramp for FL/FR.

The question is if the 8005 is a good sonic upgrade for 2 channel music over the 7010, or i have to step up to get audible diference.....

Power node..and to my novice and untrained ears it sounds superb. So node 2shouldnt be far off. As per the reviews , the marantz na6005 is too smooth a sounder. I have never heard it. But depending on your choices of presentation you can choose what you want.

Hi

I have an integrated amp with on board DAC connected to the pre-outs of the SR7010, makes a huge difference to sound quality....DO IT :)

All my music is streamed from Spotify Premium through a Sonos Connect, connected via digital coaxial cable to utilise the stereo amp's DAC.

Hi Darisg,

Excellent choice of kit, IMHO

Used to own the SR7007. As good as the Denon 6200w is with anything you throw at it, the PM8005 & Opticon 6 have a synergy above their price point.

Definitely recommend your plan. Not heard the 6005 streamer but agree with the suggestion of the Node 2 as a starting point. Own proven OS, Arm A9 quad core and MQA ready.

I have heard the PM14 Se and it is a step up again, but 3 x the price. For that money, I would look at the 25kg Denon pma 2500NE which has excellent reviews and a high quality DAC - enabling a non-dac streamer to be used, such as the Auralic Aires mini. For CDs, you can then digital out from the UD7007 rather than use it's own dac & analogue output..
