I had a very good deal recently with this Marantz amp and i m very happy with it, specially with music, which was my original goal. Now i need to upgrade my front speakers aswell. These speakers were fine with my old NAD, but now i feel that the sound needs a little more power and detail, specially with music. The movies are fine. Which speakers would go best with this Marantz? I m ver happy with BWs so im considering, maybe, the CM8. My retailer has advised me to go for the MA RX8 and the REL T7 or T9 sub, but as i was checking the monitor audio website for specs, it came to my attention that those speakers are 4ohms and maybe that's not a very smart way to go, even with the retailer saying to me that they partner the marantz and the RX8 everyday.

Morning ripz,

Im using the same amp as you with B&W 683 fronts and HTM61 centre (fronts are bi amped). Personally i find the marantz to cope fine with the 683's which have been known drop to 3ohm. Can you take your marantz in to the shop to audition with all the speakers mentioned??? That would be my next move.

Hey Atkins! Thx for the reply. That will be my next move indeed. I will try to test as many speakers as i possibly can and write my findings here.

Cheers.

When Bi-Amp/Bi-Wiring is done the SR7005 is excellent. Up to the B&W CM9 it will do an excellent job. I have a setup in my shop with the new SR7007 coupled with the Monitor Audio GX300 and it is nothing short than exceptional.

Morning Wikus. Thx for reply. I have it bi-wired. It has improved a bit, but i don t feel the stereo as good as it was with my old NAD T743. I feel that the SR7005 needs one more notch to greatness, so im going to test it with 684, CM1, CM8, CM9, MA RX1, RX6 and RX8 plus a Rel T5 or T7. Will see how it goes :)

Not wanting to hijack the thread but, has anyone explored the streaming features of the marantz?

If so what was your expertise re sound quality?

Any issues with regards to format, flac or apple lossless, gapless?

I plan to use Tannoy Revolution signatures, a set up I heard some time ago. I was quite impressed.

Beleive it or not I have had this kit in their boxes for over a year whilst I complete work on the house, taking a bit longer than planed!

Hello! Atkins, this probably concerns you the most :D . So i ve done tests to the following speakers: CM1, CM7, CM8, CM9, RX1, RX6, RX8 and 684, plus, REL T7 subwoofer. I have used a pen with several flac files, madonna erotica, chick corea, claire martin, anathema, opeth, gwen stefani love angel music baby, nirvana nevermind, perl jam ten. All albuns were ripped to max quality, and the winners are Monitor Audio RX8 and B&W CM8. My preference goes to the MA's, but this is only a matter of personal taste. I m still debating my self with these two, to be honest, but probably i ll go for the MA's. One more thing, i have listened all the music in pure audio mode (red light onand no display :p) between -5db, -10db and -20db.

Atkins, i really advise you do an audition. I know this is a common place, but it will be very revealing for sure, specially with the marantz. Btw, those 4ohms specs of MA RX8, well, the marantz drive these speakers very very well, and it didn t get very hot i must say. All other speakers took the marantz to a lot more heat.
