Hi,

I can get a new PM6004 or a used PM7200 (a bit cheaper). And I heard that PM6004 would be a perfect fit for the Lektor 2s. What amp would you recommend? Is there another amp to consider?

Thanks

Joel

I can't speak for the 6004, haven't heard it but obviously it's a WHF award winner. I did have a 7200 which was a cracking amp in a horrible gold crinkle finish, good phono stage, excellent sound and a switchable Class A mode for more warmth that also doubled as a room heater when on Class A (it needs plenty of space above!)

I'm sure either would be excellent but my money is on the 7200 if you don't mind the looks, size, weight and heat :silenced:

Cant comment on the 6004, but I really miss my PM7200. Every now and then I get the urge and look on ebay for KI Sig version then tell my self off and stick to the plan :)

Hiya,

I also can not say anything about the PM6004, but I had the chance to use the 7200 for 2 weeks , and what can I say ... It`s huge , it looks like a brick , but apart of that it is such a sweet amp. It had no problems whatsoever driving my Mezzo 6. It beautifully detailed and transparent . I got so used to it for such a short period ,It was hard to return it back to my friend :) Probably the 6004 is very good too, but I really doubt it could outmatch the 7200.

The PM7200 is a superb amp - one of the best Marantz have made at the affordable end of the market. It is a very musical and sweet sounding amplifier and sounds much mroe expensive than it actually is.

Hard to say how it would compare with the 6004 without hearing them side by side, but I would imagine it might be quite a close race (having heard both amps seperately).

I thought the PM7200 was very bland, really sucked the life out the music. Remember you have to turn off/and on again to engage the 'Class-A' swich.

It was easily bettered by the Teac A-BX7R I had at the time, and by the Sony ES stuff I have had Since.

Thanks for all your replies! I'm really leaning towards the PM7200 now.

Have anyone heard it with the Lektor 2s or any other Dali speaker?

Thanks

I own the PM7000 (which i believe should sound the same as the PM7200) and compared it with the PM Ki Pearl lite on a demo. The pearl sounded bright to my ears and actually preferred my PM7000.

I currently have a Roksan Kandy Liii on loan from a friend and to be completely honest im having a hard time deciding which one i prefer. I just love the low end grunt on the PM7000 through my b&w cm1's. The only negative is it does look a little dated and new marantz amps look awesome in my opinion.

Has anyone heard the difference between the KI version of PM7200 and the original? I can get the KI version on ebay. But since I would rather have a black unit I'm wondering if the sound (and the slightly higher price) is worth it.

sorry reply is so late but have only just read this thread. I had a PM7200 from new and managed to get a 7200 Ki Sig on

Ebay for an amazing £200.....and sold the original to a fella in Greece. The difference between the two amps is quite

startling....... The KI has much more low down detail and bags more very clear bass. The midrange is stunningly clear

and the high frequencies - already very sweet on the basic 7200 are just that bit better....... was the bargain of the Century and

my most prized possession.......Play it through Mission 782s..... and drives them very well in Class A...... never listen in Class B - the sound

is a little flat and boring
