Hi am after a new amp after one of the channels on my current Marantz 66se has given up the ghost.

Ive seen that the pm6003 has been highly rated, but wondered if there was a massive diffenece between this and the pm7003.

with most retailers offering good discounts at the moment, there is not a massive differnce in price between the 2.

Is it worth going for the pm7003?

I had a different dilemma: pm7003 or nad 355bee. bunch of people auditioned them simultaneously, using 3 - 4 different sets of speakers at local dealer studio, and nad performed better.. they advised me unanimously to go for nad and I gave it a chance with canton ergo 603, MA rx2, br5... recommend you to give nad a chance and audition them...dont make you stop nad's ugliness...the best part is inside...

Thanks for the advice. I think the Marantz Range look stunning, quite the opposite from the NAD amps, but would go for performance over looks every time.

Theres nothing worse than buying gear, then being disappointed when you realise you should have made a wiser purcahse!

Just a few points in defense of PM6003

1.It has a loudness switch that is very useful at low volume levels, which is missing in the PM7003.

2.Has a Toroidal transformer, usually in high-end amps although I don't know exactly what's the benefit. PM7003 doesn't.

3.Full 5 star WHF review for PM6003.No review for PM7003.

I'm not an expert on hifi amps and have no intention of giving a point by point reply. All I was doing was defending PM6003 and that I think i have achieved. PM7003 doesn't have a WHF review yet,so how are people like myself supposed to make up their mind when there isn't even a direction to look at.If there was,I would have certainly looked.

Yes,PM6003 may be entry level I agree but it's "up with the elite" to quote WHF.

I guess it depends on individual ears,cd player and speakers as well. The harmony between components etc. What cdp/speakers do you use?

Just bought the pm7003 and am feeling very smug as I think Ive got it for an absolute bargin. Bought it for £311 of t'internet, but noticed a few hours after I bought it the price had gone up to £400. Am not sure that the £311 was the intended price!

Its got all of the punch that my Marantz PM66se didnt have plus lots more. am very happy! just feel my KEF Q4s are holding it back now! Theres always something better to aspire to!
