Did anyone ask the op the very simple and logical question if he’s attached the speakers properly and /or ensured the relevant speaker switch is on? The NR1200 takes two pairs of speakers.

Yes, I sort of did in post #8.
But, as others have suggested, I think he just expects the '40' to be louder than it is.

My mum has a far less powerful Denon mini network system, and it does not need to be turned up to 40. Either the op is hard of hearing, or there's something wrong with the amp.

I have an NR1200, i can hear stuff at 10, i like to listen at 60
My previous NAD amp, i listened at 35/40
At first i was surprised that i needed to turn it to 60 to really enjoy my sounds
Now i just turn it up and chill

The posts just confirm that these numbers are pretty meaningless for comparisons.

Sounds like sensibly low input sensitivity to me…. You still have 60 % volume adjustment. Imagine if you got to 40 and it was too loud! 🙂
