Hi, i need some advice.

I have just bought a Marantz MCR 610, and am in the process of setting it up.

The problem is that it will not conect to a network via an ethernet cable, as i do not have wifi. So i cannot access internet stuff yet.

Am i doing something wrong, and is there a way to sort this out?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers....Callum.

and you're connecting it to????? You mention an ethernet cable, are you sure it's the correct type of cable?

Page 25 of the user manual does give a list of things to check

Oops! pardon my ignorance...i'm not too hot on all that. So, what is the best way to get set up for internet access with the Marantz?

Follow the quick setup guide. You can find it on the M-CR610 webpage on the Marantz website. (Under 'downloads'.)

http://www.marantz.co.uk/DocumentMaster/master/M-CR610N_ENG_Quick%20Setup%20Guide_UG_v00.pdf

Make sure the unit is powered off completely (not just standby) then connect the ethernet cable, then power on and follow the guide.

The guide is really, really easy to follow.

You'll be fine.

Thanks Mattew, i need to think about these Zensor 1's now :)

Take your time to find the speakers you like the best. I love the combination with my Zensor 3s but I'm also finding, by trying some of my other speakers, that the Marantz performs well with almost any speaker and what you end up with is hearing the characteristics of the speaker rather than the system.

Aye, true i suppose, but i don't have any hifi shops near me to audition anything, so may take a chance on the Dali Zensor 1s. I'm using my 20 odd year old Mission 760is just now. They are not too bad i suppose (i'm hearing little snippets of extra detail sometimes) but i suspect i can do a lot better with the Marantz 610, especially after reading glowing reports from other forum users, and various reviews?

Yes, things have moved on since the 760i, even though they were excellent in their time.

If you are going to take a chance on speakers, you could do a heck of a lot worse than the Zensor 1s. They are super speakers.

I'm considering this system too as it seems such a value for money all-rounder. The functionality and the size seem great but I wonder how different the sound is to the PM6005, which was my first thought and something I tried with the CD6005 and quite liked. Intending to connect a Rega RP1 so would appreciate knowing how your turntable sounds through this Matthew, compared to the inbuilt cd player?

If the speaker purchase isn't imminent Callum I'll possibly audition several and can let you know what I feel works best. Although I appreciate we may have different ears.

There is a definite Marantz sound and the '610 has it. It is not unlike the 6004 components I've had previously. However, for some bizarre reason, it seems to drive a wider range of speakers more convincingly.

I've owned Quad 11Ls for years and many of the amps I've owned just haven't got anything like the best out of them, including the PM6004. The Quads are an affordable speaker but with several qualities normally not found in budget speakers. The MCR610, however, really gets hold of them and they sound wonderful together - a very natural sound. With vocals and acoustic instruments the combination is superb. I'm very intrigued to eventually hear it with some of the Anniversary Edition Wharfedale Dentons or something like Spendor S3/5r2s - speakers I wouldn't dare to match with most budget amps.

How well the turntable sounds will depend more on the choice of turntable, cartridge and phono stage than the '610 as one of the things I really love about the Marantz is the consistency of quality across inputs. With my Cambridge Audio 540P phono stage, the Pro-ject sounds excellent.

PS I'm not suggesting you should rush out and buy Quads, Wharfedale Dentons, or Spendors BTW. The sound of all these speakers is of a more natural persuasion not as popular these days. They don't have the +1 treble and bass or the associated scooped out mid-range. Rather they are more even handed with the frequency range and, if anything, focus on the mid-range. This won't suit everyone as some would say it is a less 'exciting' sound. They aren't going to kick you in the guts, 'sparkle' or hurl the music at you.

The key thing is that the Marantz seems to work well with a wide range of speakers so you should spend some time trying different options to confirm which gives the best sound for you and the music you listen to.

Heard the m-cr 610 on Friday speakers demoed were monitor audio silver 1s and 2s and they both sounded amazing, the silver 2s were my favourite. it also had a firm grip on the silvers 2s delivering a lot of output without requiring a lot of volume.

Rich clear warm sounds with clarity and deep bass i was really impressed and also tempted.

I was initially considering a naim unitiqute 2 but my local Sevenoaks didn't have it so i demoed the super uniti just to get a feel for of the naim sound. Powerful clear with ample range and volume is what I'd associate with the naim but i also felt ear fatigued. Music did start to come across quite harsh.

when I changed over to the marantz the fatigue left and all was good again, maybe i don't get on with the name sound?? long story short though the marantz delivered a very nice sound and hearing it paired with the silver 2s impressed even more.

Thanks for the advice. I initially demoed the PM6005 with Concept 20s and whilst the combination sounded great for acoustic and electronic music there was just a little something lacking on guitar band stuff like Band of Horses and Hot Water Music, particularly in choruses where an overdrive pedal was kicked on and the bass picked up. I need bookshelf speakers though so also tried some Focal Chorus 705s that were in the room, which I thought were a slight improvement. I think I'll try connecting the Focals and Dalis to the MCR-601 and attempt switching between the two using the remote. This is another reason for liking the look of this system as I need to connect two sets of speakers to switch between rooms and it saves buying a QED switch.

Dear All,

I have purchased a Marantz M-CR610 system for approximately six months. I was listening to an internet radio station and this radio station was erased automatically from the list about 2 months ago. I have tried many solutions of finding this particular station but with no success.

Any reason why this so happens?

Many Thanks and Regards

+1 for the Marantz & Zensor 3 combo - an excellent match
