Marantz CD63 KI: upgrade mains cable?

Upon recently acquiring a used CD63 KI, I must admit I was a little put-out that such a highly-regarded piece of HiFi came with a hard-wired mains-cable of what looks to be the same calibre as that fitted to my £5-from-Argos bedside clock.

I'm probably 15 years too late, but are there specialists who will retro-fit a three-pin IEC mains-socket into the rear casing? I could do it myself but I don't have the tools to cut the metal properly, and I don't want a socket loosely dangling out of the back; that seems so amateurish.

I'd rather have a CD player with a slim hardwired power lead than with an IEC socket and the worlds' best mains lead. CD players don't draw much power. A slim lead will be fine. Adding an IEC socket will just add another join between your CD63's power input and your electricity sub-station. If you're really not happy with the power lead, why not just replace it directly with one of your choice with a bit of soldering?

BTW, the manuals for my EMT turntables say that I should use flexible power leads. So I use thin flexible power leads. They sound fine. They draw about 80 watts.

Now that's a good idea. After looking at other threads on this forum I have been eyeing-up the various products from such as Audio Friendly, who seem reasonably priced (compared to some I've seen that's for sure). I guess it wouldn't be a mammoth task to to remove the socket from the cable and solder the cable inside the player.

Hi, I put a better cable on my Marantz cd63se, wired inside the unit. I got a certified electrican to do it. It opened up the sound a lttle more, bigger sounstage and also revealed more detail and also made it a touch smoother. Cheers Steve.

Thanks Steve that's basically what I'm looking for.
I can probably do the soldering myself. That's one benefit of having old HiFi: my CD63KI has not been in warranty since the dead sea was still on life-support, so I don't have to worry about invalidating it by doing something basic like upgrading the player's mains cable. I still wish they'd made it truly user-replaceable, even if the plug and socket adds another join in the chain.
