hi guys , im heading down to cork to get a cdp next week , i spoke to the dealer this morning to get some prices and check availability of nad players , he actually reccomended the marantz with my nad amp , saying that he thinks the two will work perfectly well together ..

i told him that i love the nad characteristics , and my concern is that a different make of cdp may alter them , but he reckons ill still get the nad trademark sound through the amp , tight bass , punchiness etc , while gaining a little extra detail through the marantz , does anyone have any views on this ? good or bad idea ? i dont mind going with the marantz , whfi love it , as does the dealer , he reckons its easily the best in its class .. anyone ?? ..... ta..

The Marantz CDP will work fine with the NAD amp Max; it'll sound v good indeed

Deffo demo it against the NAD C545BEE or even the C515BEE CDP's before you make a decision as they're v good CDP's as well and the synergy between the NAD's me be what you need!

If you're fine with 2nd hand items deffo have a nosey on eBay for the likes of an Arcam CD72 or CD73

thanks dan , id have no problem buying 2nd hand , would either of the two arcams you mentioned be better than the marantz or nad new ? any idea how much they would cost ? cheers

Max, i had a NAD314 amp with a Marantz CD42mkII for near 20 years! I guess that will tell you if they work well together ( that's just my opinion of course )

IMO the NAD C545BEE has only one competitor in the under £500 bracket and thats the Rega Apollo. The C545BEE is better than the Marantz IMO BUT that is for my tastes in music and the rest of my system etc...

I really struggled to decide which CDP to go for but in the end the C545BEE just pipped the Apollo for overall soundstage and synergy.

The Arcam CD72 or the CD73 again are very good CDP's and I think they'd give the Marantz a tough run for its money but I'd say they're on a par with the NAD C545BEE.

thats interesting torres , jack did say that many people historically buy the nad amp but run them with a marantz cdp , i did like the marantz amps sound too , although the nads punchiness , better bass (imo) won me over after auditioning , so the 6003 may well be interesting , i will have to give this some thought

thanks dan , im cluless regarding cdps , ill have a google around to check out those you mentioned , i was just going to buy the c545bee , until the marantz suggestion , time for some review reading

I'd say stick to the demo with the Marantz and the NAD's and see what you think.

Obviously make sure you can demo it with your amp or another C326 and either the same or similar speakers.

Try to find out what interconnect is being used as well as if it's a new one it wont sound as good as a run in cable; same with the CDP really IMO

yes , having thought about it , im probably better of buying new , as you say , i can demo both with a nad amp , buying from ebay without an audition may have me wondering in the future (and we all know what wondering causes

) ..

no , it will be a staight shootout between the c545 and marantz , at least i now know for sure that either will be great , its up to me to choose

I have a cd6003 and it is a beautifully built machine, solid and heavy. I also like the ipod compatibility alot. Havent heard the NAD player though...

If it's any help I've got a Marantz CD6003 linked upto an older NAD C320 BEE and it gives great sound, better than when I had NAD CD player hooked up. Enjoy, I do.

hmmm , i really like the idea of a rega appolo , quirky looking thing too , great reviews , bit pricey , but i might , i just might ..

heres an idea , many people on here often wonder what different components would sound like with their systems , what about a temp swap ? between forum members ? the only way to know is a home trial right ?

I have to take issue with dan on this one
emotion-9.gif
- but the Rega Apollo was originally built to sell and compete in the £600 price bracket. That's why 3 or 4 years ago when it won product of the year, it knocked the Cyrus CD6S off its perch. Only over the last year or so have Rega dropped the price of the Apollo and Saturn. Not surprising it's an excellent sub-£500 CDP.

No need to take an issue PP.

Yes the Rega Apollo WAS a £600 CDP but it's now at £475 so it makes for one of the best (if not close to the best) CDP under £500!

I still think it competes with CDP's up to £1k as well so if you can afford it (and it's to your tastes etc...) then buy it

I agree, it's fantastic value at the reduced price. I might seem picky because it is a minor detail, but it seems with all the recommendations of the Rega Apollo, it's a concern that with some budget amps it maybe an overkill.

Crucial point IMO. The Marantz CD6003 is MUCH better built than the NAD C545BEE.

heard the 5003 or 6003 dont know didnt pay much attention but it sounded pretty good.

I auditioned yesterday Rega Apollo with Nad 326bee amp and I can tell you that for my taste sounded very good. Actually the Apollo is the most impressive cd player I 've listened to so far, so good that after auditioning it I decided to buy it right away even if it was completely out of my budget (and I was in the shop to buy only speakers......but my wife insisted
emotion-4.gif
). For my taste is definetely superior to Nad 545 model, but as we all know, it's a matter of personal taste so the only thing to do is auditioning them.

Is there much wrong in pairing Marantz CD6003 with the PM6003?? It seems like they both work great together.

well , i demoed the nad c545 bee and the marantz today , through a nad c326bee and a pair of br5s , my setup at home , both sounded great to be honest , i couldnt really choose one on performance , i did think the nad sounded a touch bassier , and as i said before , i feel i already have enough bass , so i bought the marantz
emotion-1.gif
, first impressions now ive got it setup at home , its great , the sound is fuller and the soundstage seems wider than on my sony bluray player , which i expected it to , so , im happy

When it does improve things, then you will upgrade the speaker cable, then the I/C, then the PowerCord, then the Stands

It's never ending, welcome to the club
