Marantz cd6002 - advice needed....

Hi, I currently have the following set up: 1.Marantz cd5400 Cd Player 2.Marantz PM 7200 Amp 3.B & W DM 602 S2 speakers 4.Black Rhodium Melody Interconnect between cd player and amp 5.Van Den Hul cs122 Hybrid speaker cable I am thinking of changing the CD player for the Marantz CD6002 - will this be a positive upgrade or a sideways move ? Richer Sounds now stock this model for £199.99, and its had rave reviews since it was launched. £200 is a lot of money for me, and I want to make the right decision. Any comments would be much appreciated ! regards, Rob

Hm. Tricky. Personally I'd sell the B&Ws and add that to the £200 on better speakers.........

CD6002 is definitely better than CD5400.

Yes but is it £185 better (the cost of the 6002 minus what you'd get for the 5400, at current eBay rates).

I just bought a CD6002 yesterday from RS it was to replace my Marantz CD63SE which died after 13 years good service. I also have B&W D602 S2's biwired to my Pioneer A-400 with QED Silver Anniversary cables, my speakers are on Custom Design s300 stands.
My initial impressions of the CD6002?......
Nowhere near as good as the CD63SE, the upper mid frequencies are too "thick" whilst Bass response is too forthright and muddies things a bit. Maybe it will settle down in a few days.
Mind you at £199.95 I suppose one can't expect miracles.
