marantz and monitor audio rs8

I owned the 6003 cd and amp along with the MA RX6 - really like the combination but something was missing (hence now using the Yamaha) probably a bit lacking in pace and drive for rock or more expansive music. Great for Jazz, vocals and gentler acoustic music.

Not sure which Marantz you are looking at but this weakness may bot present itself with their more expensive kit.

was looking at the pm-15s2 for stereo and to drive the fronts and may be at a later date adding the sr-6004 av amp.

I've not heard the speakers, but listened to the amp and matching CDP a little bit with B&W 685s 805s and Dali Lektor 2. Didn't get a really serious demo, but my general impression was that it was very neutral and detailed if a little bass shy. Maybe working some floorstanders would sort that out. I didn't listen to a wide variety of music, but it seemed to have good rhythm, but maybe a little lacking in dynamism (the bass again?)

smmee:has anyone heard the above combi, thoughts would be most welcome.

I auditioned about 18 months ago the Marantz 7001 with my RS6s. It sounded good, although I found the combination rather soft and woolley.

The RS8s, from experience need careful partnering; they can sound very overwhelming with an upfront sounding amp. They tend to major on bassy, big-boned presentation. I've found from experience that Arcam is the best synergy match for Monitor Audio. Unless you like classical and/or big band music, I would steer clear of Marantz/MA combo.

I heard the marantz at the bristol show and was quite impressed, hence the question, i have different routes avalible to me this beening one of them, the other would be a arcam avr 500 which also sounded good with stereo at the show, but would not be able to add a dedicated stereo amp to at a later date. or a yamaha Z7 which has preout? any thoughts would be welcome
