Magnets

Hi

Can LCD or Plasma screens be affected by magnets being passed close to the screen?  I don't mean magnets used in speakers, I'm referring to the magnets held in children's hands?  

I don't think my local retailer would appreciate me finding out for myself.

i didn't think magnets affected lcd/plasma tv's as they do crt sets, but i could be wrong
