Mac computer and Apple tv

Hi. I have a late 2013 mac computer. It doesnt have Airplay on it my question is can I still use an Apple TV with it, My ipad 2 hasnt got the Airplay fuction either. I would Appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance

afaik ipad2's are fine with airplay and osx supported it from mountain lion I think.

If you have an apple tv an neither are picking it up, it's probably either an issue with your network or the apple tv.

Thanks. I havent bought one yet ( the Apple TV that is ) I just want to know if it will work before I decide to buy. Cheers
