hi folks , just rigged up my new speakers and yamaha rxv765 amp , all working fine , but im not sure what settings to have the bluray player on , ive only got 2 channel stereo for a while ,using the br5 floorstanders until i get centre , sats and sub ..does anyone know what output the bluray player should be set to ??

also , while watching layercake on bluray , the sound was not right , there was no speech , im assuming the amp was trying to output 5.1 , and not stereo , ill have a good read of the manual , but if any yamaha owners could help me along that would be great , ta..

how is the blu ray player coupled to the amp, coax/optical I guess?

If that is the case you can instruct the Yamaha that it must output in stereo from the remopte, also is there an instruction needed for the blu ray player to tell it to out put in coax/optical?

It's all there in the manual, no short cuts, just reading through I'm afraid

Yamaha manual is straight forward, what of your blu ray player?

yes of course , but is it that simple ?? what about the various audio formats ? dd , dts master audio , etc , can they be decoded and then sent out as stereo ?

everything is connected via hdmi , humax , bluray player into amp , amp to hdmi 1 on the tv , i know im being a little lazy here , i am reading the manual , but sometimes these things are so simple when you know how

Are these the first speakers you've had?

MA are a solid choice, even though I've not experienced them myself. It won't be very expensive to add the bronze centre and you could pick a sub up for a reasonable price. What kind of surrounds will you go for? The dipole/bipoles?

Well max, how did you get on in Cork, i see you got the BR5's and the Yamaha

Did you get a good deal? Does Jack have any options regarding Rear's, Centre and Sub?

hi torres , yea e800 the lot , a great price , nice fella jack , i demoed the yamaha with the speakers , as soon as i heard them i knew id buy them , centre e150 , sub is expensive , close to e400 , sats probably e120 the pair , ill add those as i can , thats e1050ish for the lot , not bad for the brand and with the front floorstanders , i think i made a wise choice , i wont need or want to upgrade for a long time ..

got a phone call not ten min ago re a nice paving job , might not have to wait too long for rest of the gear

hi there , im unsure of the dipole/bipole thing ? yes they are fine speakers , i have not had anything of this quality before no , i did have a sony home cinema before , about 03 i got it , expensive too , e900 i think , dvd , sacd player , 5.1 , not bad , but nowhere near the kind of setup im building now (i know , its still budget around these parts

) , the centre is e150 .. great value , i feel ive bought quality and performance too ..

These are the dipole/bipoles http://www.exceptional-av.co.uk/product.php?fdProductId=261

I dunno if im allowed to post links to stores or not though?

They are a good choice if you want something flush to the wall and tidy like. Not the best choice of music though.

i seen them in the store , nice , ill look at them for sure .. you can post links to stores , you just cant post links to other forums etc ..

going back to the "warm or bright" thing , the combination i have certainly doesnt sound too hectic or exitable , more smooth , laid back even , but crisp enough , they probably need to run in a bit too , turning them up loud is kinda wierd , they just get much louder , far more than id need , with no distortion , nice...

they wount distort but the midrange will become much pronounced.thats the part of the br5 I dont like.the br2 are the same.

they are bassy ok , but i like that , not sure i even need a sub , the amp has plenty of settings , ive been playing around with them , id say whatever your taste , you would find a sound you like ..

yes i guess it has equalizer settings so you can tune the sound of the speakers.

tell me something, with movies do voices come louder than everything else or you think they are a bit on second ground?

havnt really checked that out yet ear , but the lack of a centre speaker means its hard to tell , its all just stereo for now , cds sound great though , even through the bluray player ..

i found that the looking at around 8 pairs of £350-£600 floorstanders that they were the best.

max the best thing i like about the br5's is how at night and low volumes they are so punchy and you get a lot of detail that only £400 plus standmounts could better. this is imo.

I have also found that biwire was a waste of time and just using the same cable as jumpers was the way to go. I also found that it was around a month to run in( hours a day),

well i have not experienced any other speakers so its impossible to know how these compare , but i certainly cant find anything i dont like about them , and i take your point regarding low volume punch and clarity , im listening to r.e.m. right now , and im loving the sound , even though i doubt the neighbours can hear it , to be honest i havnt enjoyed listening to music as much for ages , you really "hear it" through good speakers , i dont know why i didnt invest in this kind of setup years ago , its very nice

i can remember ages ago when i used them as my fronts and my mate borrowed my centre for day to prove his all in one was tinny. And unless you make a triangle and sit at the point or ideally 1-2m off the centre i found that you were fooled almost like what you do for stereo music. But sitting off centre badly shows no centre. Max just to get you buy ebay often have old bronze centres not br but ok for around £30-£40 a pop help while you save £130 and you will also sell it for simliar.

Adding a centre alone will make a nice difference. Adding surrounds will immerse you more. Adding a sub will suprise you what improvement it brings.

A good sub is essential in a surround system. It fills the speakers out nicely.

A BK Gemini with those Max would be a great choice. Best sub for the money.

ah ill just get the ma centre smuggs , even if its not for a few weeks , im used to my tvs speakers so im sure it will be a long time before im craving anything more than im getting now ..

as regards the sub , ill get the ma one too , i dont want to compromise this setup , and if i get something else , ill only be looking for faults , no , ma all the way for me ..
