Hi,

I need to go and buy a ipod or a sony Walkman or possibly another make, not sure which one.

My only knowledge of these machines, is that in the past, when I have listened to friends models with my Grado headphones, I have found the volume to be quite quiet, even at maximum levels, and before anyone suggests it, even after "tinkering" in the menu for half an hour trying to persuade it to behave itself and get a bit louder.

Now, I may just have heard the naffest of models, or just been unlucky, but can anyone offer up models that go louder, if required.

I don't really care how old the model is. I'm not looking for fashion or to keep up with the latest trends or models that can hold ten billion full albums, or turn into duvets if you hold them sideways whilst standing on one leg..........You get the idea.............

Ease of use is also important...I want to listen to music not spend all the while pressing buttons or adjusting settings.

As Albert Einstein said, " things should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler".

Thanks folks,

Neil.

edsib1:a headphone amp would be your answer ?

Not sure what you mean by this.

Are you suggesting that I carry a headphone amp around with me (no that can't be what you mean)

What precicely is your solution again.

I use one of these with my Desire - its only about the size of a matchbox.

Which Grado headphones do you have? I have absolutely no problem with my iPhone or my (older) iPod Touch into my SR-80s or my iGrados. There's more than enough volume!

Have a look at the Cowon range. Reported to have a higher output level than other brands.

Had a brief look at the Cowon range on Amazon, and people there seem to really like them.

The people also moaned about the awful nature of volume on a lot of regular players was good for me to read, as I thought I might be the only one who noticed this issue.

Thanks..

Neil.

Thing to remember about Sony mp3 players is they have their volume range limited due to EU regulations. It is possible to turn the restrictor off on most Sony players but if your using Grado's (or any other good quality headphones) I would definately recommend the use of a headphone amp.

I got myself a PA2V2 from http://www.electric-avenues.com/amplifiers.html which run my Sennheiser IE8's brilliantly. It's a little on the bulky side when strapped to my Sony but a Fiio amp (as mentioned above) would be much more compact and from what I hear also does an excellent job
