Lovefilm dropping Flash and swapping to Silverlight

Lovefilm have announced that they are dropping support from flash and will only stream to PCs (Macs / Windows) using Microsoft's Silverlight product. They have pretty much admitted that this was because of pressure from the Studios to use a secure distribution format, otherwise they would have no content to distribute. This change does not affect PS3 users, but if you're using Linux you're pretty much out in the cold and won't be able to stream Lovefilm films.

This change is going live in the first week in January 2012 - which according to Lovefilm gives users time to sort things out!

Ouch - that's pretty harsh for all (us) Linux users... |(

Harsh indeed but with a comparatively-tiny number of computers running Linux, sadly I don't think they'll be worrying about excluding swathes of customers.

I take it there are no signs of a Microsoft Silverlight for Linux?

There is moonlight for Linux. Not sure how complete it is tho.

Seems an odd decision - Microsoft seem to be quietly dropping Silverlight where they can in favour of HTML5.
