Loudspeaker Drivers from the UK ???

Hi,

With the impending Brexit, and increased costs for importing goods, will the UK extend its manufacturing base for electrical or electromechanical components such as loudspeaker drivers ?.

Specifically – will ATC or Volt be creating new drivers designed, or made in the UK ???

Is there any cost saving post Brexit assuming the same exchange rate if such companies were to provide drivers in, or for the UK, as opposed to using European makes ?

Scanspeak is now owned by a company in the far east, or is that collaboration ???.

AE seem to be a UK company – so is there a gap – where they can start to offer their drivers to other third parties or the DIY sector ?

We do seem to rely too much on importing technology and perhaps do not invest for the long term ?

Im sure younare aware but Atc and volt provide some of their drivers to wilmslow audio.

So you can buy just the drivers from them.

Hi,

Yes, I was aware. The mid range from ATC and Volt are expensive, and only a single mid range. The resonant frequency is approximately 400Hz, which is rather high.

If you look at the units from SB Acoustics, Seas, Scanspeak etc., there are numerous midrange drivers, and their resonant frequency is sub 100Hz.

I think it may be a missed opportunity from a British manufacturer to compete with others.
