Personally i would prefer Harry Potter over Lord Of The Rings.

Oh Pul-ease. Harry Potter's are kids films. Poor stories poorly acted.

L.O.T.R has a depth that H.P could only dream about thinking about hoping for.

Michael Gambon, Maggie Smith, Jason Isaacs, Robbie Coltrane, Richard Harris, Alan Rickman, John Hurt - they are rubbish aren't they. Two wonderful series of films, perfectly possible to love them both.

I was thinking more along the lines of the central characters...... But if we're talking Coltrane, I wouldn't put Hagrid anywhere remotely near Fitz.

You can be a great actor and still be lumbered with poor dialogue, ask Harrison Ford.

'[Sir Alec] Guinness begged Lucas to kill off Obi-Wan Kenobi, and he eventually relented. "What I didn't tell him," Guinness later revealed, "was that I just couldn't go on speaking those bloody awful, banal lines. I'd had enough of the mumbo jumbo." '

Indeed you can as Mr Ford was. Having children who like to watch the Harry Potter films on a regular basis, I think the dialogue is pretty good- certainly when compared with rubbish like Transformers, Transformers 2 or The Last Airbender which the boys also sadly enjoy. The Narnia films, which should arguably be in the same market segment as Potter are not in the same class.

zavvi have it listed up as a june 28th release. But the SUPER BAD news is that it seems that each film is over 2 discs.

Having each film spread over 2 disks doesn't phase me as it should ensure that the films will be playing at the highest bit-rates possible. Hopefully this means that the PQ and SQ will be fantastic. I do have a feeling that the current 2K masters will have to be done at a higher resolution at some stage. Even if that means re-rendering the effects.

Agreed, I'd much rather the PQ and SQ was kept as high quality as possible and having to pause for a few seconds whilst discs are changed over than having a compromise on this just to fit everything on the one disc.

Indeed. Also, given that each half is as long as a normal film, I think the break would probably be needed regardless so changing disks is no hardship.

£60 at Play.com for the extended versions - they are having a laugh aren't they?

http://www.play.com/DVD/Blu-ray/4-/19102858/The-Lord-Of-The-Rings-Trilogy-Extended-Edition-Box-Set/Product.html

Are you really going to pay that? if not how much would you pay to get them?

Cheers

Gel, can I call you that, thegelman seems so formal.

I'd pay £60 to not have to sit and watch the extended versions, unless I was having trouble sleeping.

Nice one gel.

I'd just like to clarify my opinion on LOTR, before I get a volley of abuse from the many fans of the films.

I think all 3 films are excellent cinema, I own the Blu-Ray trilogy, but I, and many people I know, struggle to get through the theatrical versions without falling asleep.

So the idea of watching the extended versions seems like the viewing equivalent of painting the forth bridge to me.

By the time I eventually get to the end of the film, I'd have forgotten what happened at the beginning, so I'd have to start again, and so begins an endless cycle of midgets and swords.
