Hey folks,

I have just bought a Classe CAP-2100 amp to pair with my B&W 805s. i now need to find a great source. i would like a cd player that has a digital input so that i can feed my apple TV lossless signal and use the onboard DAC of the CD player.

Other option is to get a separate DAC.

Budget of 2000 pounds. Any bright ideas?

I only know of 2 that have optical inputs

Cambridge Audio 840c v2

Quad 99 cd-p2

Both apparently pretty nifty for their price bracket £1k-ish

Otherwise gor for a cd transport and seperate DAC with something from Cyrus, Bel Canto, Musical fidelity x-series etc.

I use the Cambridge Audio 840C v2 that way as well (with Sonos rather than Apple TV), and am more than delighted. The onboard DAC is quite sophisticated (check on CA web site) and beyond reproach to my ears. Also it is really well built, nicely finished, with what looks like a very robust CD transport. The brand name is maybe not exotic enough and the price tag not high enough for the audiophile show off effect, but the innards and the operation are flawless!

thanks all. am not too worry about the show effect. i just want to get the best out of my amp and speakers that go really well together.

I do have a dac magic right now fed from the apple tv but am not sure it will really do justice to the classe and the 805s

I think that if you like the dacmagic now, then you will likely love it with the amp and speakers mentioned.
