Hi folks......well,have riped all my cd's in flac, then made apple lossless copies.

Thing is,in the flac folders the music has been duplicated..showing copies as flac but the lossless is fine?!

Anyone suggest a quick fix to this please?

many thanks

Graham

I want to keep lossless and flac files, just can't understand why the flac have doubled up?

Flac are in separate folders to the lossless by the way.used dbpoweramo. to convert flac to lossless...seems its kept the original files and duplicated them!

Ok, so when you look, are the duplicate flac files in the same directory as the apple lossless, or do you have two sets of flac files in the same folder?

two sets of flac in the same folder, but directory?i have flac in my music, lossless in public music(don't know how else to seperate)

sorry for my ignorance scene

Easiest thing is to use find to find ONLY the duplicate copies, and then delete. Are the dupes all called something like "copy of ..." or "track 001 (1).flac"?

If so, use windows find to find all files that match the naming match, starting I the top level music folder

They are exactly the same.....not looking forward to going thru 80odd albums :help:

They play ok,just wanted to tidy folders, but I think I'll live with it for a while...

Cheers

Seriously, if they're in the same folder, the actual files cannot be called the same thing. Try viewing one of the folders in windows explorer, and using the option to show extensions, in case the file names are the same, but the extensions are different.

in the album folder, some but not all songs are dupe...the strange thing is that the play lenghs are different.there is not mention of one being a duplicate either however one version does have a star rating.

I dont know what i have done, and i believe what you both say is true, wonder how they got there.... also the track playlisting is all wrong on all albums

What did I say to you last week? I said stick to CDs, this isn't going to end well.

Using your media player of choice (Mediamonkey for example) load up the flac library, sort by track name and get clicking. Assuming you're running windows, holding down Ctrl will let you click multiple tracks. Highlight all the duplicates (easy to spot now they're in track order) and then delete.

Mediamonkey can also help you organise/sort your track listings etc. I find it invaluable as a management tool.

Calm down dear, they all play and i have listened to albums previously unheard for years...all wirelessly, and all controled of my new 1pad2

Thanks for the advice Lee....i have mediamonkey so i will have a play 8)

Right thas sorted, there was an itunes folder lurking on my drive that was the source of confusion.

Every thing streams nice, but one more question,if anybody's still talking to me?!!

On most album rips the playback is good,no issues(apart from wanting to add some stereo speakers)but for my floyd albums and such like when tracks kind of merge, there is a break...at the merging point.

Question is this,if i re-rip...with what i believe is called gapless would this sort this lil problem?

Oh...one more thing :shifty: ........got myself an ipad to control the avr.....it shows the UPnP but not mediamonkey, whereas on the tv display it shows both, any advice greatfully recieved :?

cheers

Graham

Been doing abit of :type: and may seem that streaming via my AVR is the problem.I have re-riped an album useing dbpoweramp's gapless dsp,and althgough it is much better, there is still a very slight'hesitation'.

Is DNLA the problem?

No, not really. Some streaming clients will play gaplessly when playing lossless files, and others won't, giving anything from a slight click to a yawningly obvious gap between tracks.

It's a particular bugbear of mine with my Gramophone hat (which by the way is a rather stylish fedora) on, but some dismiss the lack of gapless playback as only affecting a very small number of listeners, such as listeners to operas and the like.

In fact, the problem is more widespread, as your problem with Pink Floyd demonstrates, and also affects those listening to dance mix discs and the like.

There's no dirty fix available, short of actually combining all the tracks into a single lump of music, which is a pain; fortunately more streaming clients are now becoming available able to do gapless, but the process has taken its time.

Thanks Andrew,i have read that the squeezebox touch is one such player.

Bit late in the day but I was going to say just do a Windows search for the flac files in that folder, sort the results by date and delete the most recent, which will have been the dupes.

As LHC pointed out, they weren't dupes.....but turned out to be my attempt to join the Galatic empire that is itunes(think i tried to add my library or something like)but now iv'e decided to reject the dark side.
