Linking HiFi brands to car brands

Skoda's past isn't actually as dodgy as people think. They were always very good engineers and, with very limited funding, they did pretty well. Even the first Favorits (pre-VW and completely strangled by insufficient funding at the development stage) proved reliable and the basic design and engines were good enough to continue with stronger build in later Favorits and improvements to the design in the Felicia. Those old push-rod engines were as tough as nails. The brand also has a very long past going right back to the early days when Messrs Laurin & Klement started business, originally as a bicycle repairers/manufacturer. Over time the company made tanks, buses, and commercial vehicles. The company history makes for fascinating reading.

Cool! My milk floats feed my Jaguar. Not sure where my DAC fits into this vehicular wonderland? Please don't say it's a Prius!

And in "real life" I drive a slightly scuffed up Bang & Olufson. Style over substance did you say, Andrew?

Sorry, I meant imply . . .

No, not that either. And really can't be responsible for what you choose to infer...

JoelSim:
There is definitely an anti-Arcam feeling here, as ever. Wrong.

No, just a good visual joke that had its intended purpose of winding you up.

If you'd been paying attention, you'll see that Arcam made my 'Best In Show' from Bristol, and two directors just bought an Arcam Solo Mini at my instigation. So nyah.

Well, let's compare the two:

B&O: significantly more expensive than the competition,

Audi: No,

B&O: overtly stylish,

Audi: understated style, so, no,

B&O: can be ultimately bettered for performance*,

Audi: check.

So, 1 out of 3, no, that's not snap.

*Note: I'm basing this purely on the performance of the TVs running their own internal digital tuner, we have a B&O dealer in our town (where I bought my KRP-500a from), they also sell Panasonic, Sony and Samsung TVs (as well as Pioneer previously), I've been in a number of times whilst looking for a TV, every TV in the shop is always tuned to the same channel and on every occasion the worst looking picture in the store comes from the B&Os, which, when you consider the price differential (and we're talking 3 or 4 times the cost typically, minimum), really isn't good enough. I'm happy to accept this is a pretty narrow sample of the performance of B&Os range of products but it's all I have to go on.

And they believed you , wow some people eh...........

I think you and CJ both missed the point I was making: I wasn't actually comparing brand values, but just stating facts. B&O makes in-car systems for Audi (and indeed Aston Martin); Naim for Bentley; B&W for Jaguar; and most recently Meridian for McLaren, thus creating the rather delicious irony of Meridian making audio systems for a car manufacturer whose failed audio division built the hi-tech factory in which Meridian is now housed.

Guh, there you go, introducing facts into an otherwise pointless discussion!
