what is the difference ?

Is there a difference ?

And in the case of KEFq300 speakers, what is the black knob for at the back of the speakers in between the HF and LF connections ?

And I am using an old Rotel BX930BX amplifier which I like, but can anybody recommend a worthwhile upgrade ? I mean worthwhile, and to a degree I don't really care about the cost so long as it is BETTER.

Well....ive changed my connections from LF to HF and if there is a difference, its very small.

But I WANT to hear a difference. I like these speakers, but sometimes, the higher end seems slightly "muddy" especially on vocals and female vocals.

I like my music to have a nice good tone but not tingy.

And also the left speaker seems louder than the right but not if I go close.

I use an equaliser to open out the clarity and high end a bit because I have always thought "flat" settings sounded.....flat.

some people recommend plugging one in HF and one in LF. Maybe try that (that's how I have mine wired anyway)
