This is purely out of interest & I have no intention of getting into LaserDisc!

I've done some research but not found a definitive answer. Maybe there isn't one.

Obviously the lossless formats in Blu-ray should be better quality that LaserDisc with maybe a few exceptions due to the master used, but:

Has anyone compared the audio quality of LaserDisc to the core audio of Blu-ray?

LaserDisc audio of nay type vs DD 640Kbps & DTS 1.5Mbps?

I did a quick Google as I wasn't certain with regards to Laserdisc, but According to Wikipedia, the maximum Laserdisc was capable of with DD was 348kbps. DVD was only slightly higher at 448kbps.

Both should still sound good, but core from Bluray obviously has quite an advantage. The biggest jump in sound quality is from standard DD to core - there's been many standard DD soundtracks that have sounded a bit iffy or rough to me, which I put down to compression, and I have some great sounding DD+ soundtracks on HD-DVD that sound more like True HD than DD.

And there has been the odd disc in the past where I haven't chosen the audio track in the main menu...so I've started off listening to standard audio formats rather than HD... :)
