Dear Readers

I am looking for setting up laptop based hifi speaker system. I have excellent laptops (Dell Alienware, Macbook etc) and DAC (AUDIOQUEST - DRAGONFLY V1.2 USB DAC). I am interested in the following speakers

1. B&W 685 S2

2. B&W 683 s3

it is only based on the review I read from the hifi site. My friend recommend to go for Naim amplifiers. I am ready to spend around 2K to 2.5K. I am lacking in knowledge about all these products. the whathifi site doesn't give me idea about which speaker can be better paired with amplifier etc.

My friend have done computer to hifi speaker connection but I have no idea about all these.

I really need your input. I love music and I have existing bose desktop speakers which are good but when I listetened the same music with my friend house (In India) it sounds great.

Thanks in advance

Velu

It is very hard to know how these B&W will sound in your room. I have had a wide range of B&W speakers over the years, but in my music room the ported B&W design sounded boomy and the bass sounded like it was delayed. So now I use a completely enclosed design.
The Naim amp can sound far too sharp and edgy on treble when fed with audio from a PC. I have no idea why, but it is something that my ears picked up from numerous systems that I have heard in other people's home.

Over the next few days I am going for a simple system....MacBook Pro and Dragon Fly to a set of Q Acoustic BT3 speakers. The reason for this is the room isnt vast it is a study, the speakers have an amp built in and their output is more than adequate. For me the richness of sound up close is more important than outright noise, base and room filling volume.

If I was going for a new system leave out the PC or Mac and concentrate on a DAC, Amp and Speakers, before anything else. Then look closely at what you want beyond noise from your source.
