I want to connect my Dell Inspiron laptop to my Pioneer HDTV to show pictures & to play BBC iPlayer content. The Dell has VGA, DVI & S-video outputs & the TV has USB, VGA, HDMI & component inputs. Do I simply use a VGA to VGA cable or can I get a better picture using another mix of inputs/outputs & cables?

Thanks very much for any help posted.

Thanks for that. Will this give better resolution than VGA to VGA?

Well in theory the digital signal should be better (DVI to HDMI), but in practice you may find there's not much in it, and you probably have a VGA cable lying around anyway - if you have either cable (though a DVI to HDMI convertor probably isn't in your bag, admittedly), I'd try both and see which is better.

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron and the way I see BBC/iplayer on my Tv is HDMI from dell to tv and for sound a 35mm jack/phono lead connected from headphone output on the dell to the phono on the tv.Select the output on your tv and press the FUNCTION key/ F8 on your dell. Hope that makes sense.
