Klipsch S4i + iPhone4: not what I expected

Hi all,

I just went the iPhone4 way and looking for a more decent headset got the in-ear Klipsch S4i (I wanted something compact that could fit in my pocket).

But the musical experience is far from what I expected (though I admit I've just played mp3 320kb and mp3 VBR set to max quality).

The sound is clear, nothing to complain about bass, but in my opinion the set sounds flat with a total lack of punch (even AC/DC's Hells bells sound "tamed" to my ears). The same applies to pop and classical music.

As I said, I have yet to try with uncompressed music but am starting to think it could be the iPhone or the headset.

I'll thank any suggestion from the forum.

Regards

Waldo, the lack of punch could be because of the way the ear tips fit into your ears. They should be inserted way in and twisted a bit to create a sort of air-tight seal, which improves bass response and punch considerably. I have the X10, and the sound signature varies based on how far into your ear canal you've inserted and locked the ear-tips.

Thanks Alfredd,

I know that from my first in-ears (Sennheiser CX-300) and have been playing to ensure ear-tips are correctly positioned.

Now I'm awaiting for a LOD + E5 from FiiO in case they help (though not expecting too much for that little money).

After spending some time listening and comparing with my CX300, I'm starting to think that I could be getting used to entry level audio systems and need to go one step beyond.

Well, I've received my FiiO L3 LOD and E5 amp.

I've had them burning in for about 20h, then tested them against rock and pop. In my opinion the sound from the iPhone is a bit more brilliant and detailed, and with marginally more open sound-stage.

On the other hand, I think sound of the Klipsch S4i might have improved a bit with the extra hours of use (but it could be me getting used to it). Anyway, still not the sound I'd like to enjoy.

Regards.
