Hi,

I am planning to get new speakers for my Hi-Fi installation and after weeks of reading reviews and comments, two models remains in the competition:

B&W CM7

and

KLIPSCH RF-82 MKII

I am using a double mono tube amplifier (65w per channel) and am mainly listening to Rock and Blues music.

I should be able to test the CM7 with my amplifier at the end of the week but won't be able to do the same with the Klipsch.

According to the reading I have done, Klipsch speakers have a very specific sound but have a high sensitivity of 98db that would suit very well tube amps.

So, are Klipsch or B&W two different worlds???

If any of you could help with this final steps before my decision that'd be great 🙂

Good luck on finding the CM7s..... They've been discontinued.

If you can, try to hear the £1250 CM8s.

I found them! at a good price: Demo models (in shop for 3-4months).

But still not sure what to get... as it seems difficult to get comments on the Klipsch

Sdiesel,

That's how I got mine too. Haven't heard the klipsch series, but rest assured the CM7's are a bloody good pair of speakers. I've put mine downstream of a cyrus 6 and they sound great. A good level of detail up the range with a respectable amount of bass. I listened to a pair of CM8s with a valve amp recently (not sure which as it was a store demo) but it sounded pretty good, smoother than the cm7s with the cyrus, but a little less crisp also.

Best of luck with the hunt, but if you can get a bargain with the cm7's, go for it! (biased!)

Depends entirely on the type of sound you like. Do you like horn speakers? I have the RB81's Mk1 and like them a lot. They take a while to break in but sound better the more you play them. The RF82's would be a good match for your tubes but would probably need plenty of space in the room. I want to try the new Mk2 models of the RB81 to see how it compares to mine.

How about auditioning the CM7 and then if you don't like it then the Klipsch maybe a good choice. I'd rather go for the B&W 683 to the CM7. Could also try the KEF Q900 (fairly easy to drive) or Castle Knight 5 for something different.

Thanks a lot Blackdawn, I currentyl have the KEF IQ5SE and I am not very happy with them, the KEF is very... neutral, maybe too much.

But good advices 🙂
