Can you remember when you brought the kimber 8vs, was there 2 cable runs terminated in to two banana plugs at amp end, or was it just one piece of cable with 2 banana plugs to 4 banana plugs

Here is an old image of the cable

I hope I managed to insert the picture. in each cable there are 4 pairs of twisted wires. At one end these 4 pairs are terminated in four hollow banana.. On the other side, 4 pair come out as 2 ends and have 2 bananas terminations.

No mate, the image did not work, as I can tell from what you saying is that the cable was not terminated correctly. Yes the cable you have now may need a little working in like Trevor79 above says, plus the brightness on most cables I have had in the past was all non woven cables.

Best thing is let it run for a while so you can get use to the new sound and let us know the weekend after your friend as listened.

aliEnRIK:AL13N: Or you can save yourself a lot of time, hassle and money by purchasing cable with sufficient gauge and shielding and buying an equalizer (remember those!).
My AV8003 has audyssey built in but ive found its at deriment to sound quality
Sorry, I should have been clearer. I wasn't referring to DSP or Tone Controls. I meant a proper Graphic Equalizer like this used with cable like this.

WishTree, when you changed cables did you notice any of the following?

At the same position with the volume control the sound is louder with one cable than the other?

With one cable you have a wider usable range with the volume control than the other?

Or were both cables the same in respect to the volume control and the overall volume?

I use Audyssey in AVR and it works fine for me except for the volume levels of individual speakers. When I switched to Belkin, I am asking my AVR to increase the level of main volume to hear at the same level as before. Also the center speaker is more prominent and I really have to put it down not to make it a dominating one.

One more thing, and this might sound crazy, but some of the base beats / bits are more detailed. Some one who has a very sensitive ear has to hear it too to give me another opinion and a good friend will be doing it over the weekend and I will keep posted more then.

Mmmmm, interesting, thanks!

trevor79: your amp might not like it as it might restrict current flow at high volumes

Seriously, who is telling you this stuff?

Many people have reported that after plugging their amp into a tacima then it sounds like its been restricted

As for 'clearly audible differeces' after changing cables:

1, only a slight difference in the positioning of speakers, or the positions of your ears in relation to the speakers, will result in an audible difference -- a difference that can also be measured if you replace your ears with the most humble mic and approriate software.

2, no cables that's sold as speaker cables has differences in electrical properties, of a kind that should result in audible differences.

3, no audible differences between proper speaker cables are ever measured by machinery, nor identified by people in properly conducted blind tests.

4, any psychologist could tell you (and provide experiments to prove it), that if you expect to hear differences, you'll hear differences -- no matter if you change between two cables, or just believe it's done.

Fahnsen, sorry, that doesn't work.

1) Speakers are never moved.

2) Not true. Papers written by consultants hired by cable companies and cable marketing companies have proved this isn't so.

3) Blind tests are all rubbish and prove nothing.

4) Come on, psychologists, what do those labour-voting greenies know?

I'm off now to play with the faeries at the bottom of my garden

Weekend Update:

I got two friends of mine who have more sensitive / trained ears than I do over the weekend.. I told them that I have a problem with the new cable that I have got but did not tell them what the problem was before they auditioned. During their long and varied music auditioning, they could not find anything faulty.. One of them was into this (AV) hobby and still has 3xx6 of Denon.

When I explained my problem of finding the set up to be a tad bright than I would expect, the response was pretty encouraging. Apparently one of the guy's brother has a similar problem and he had been listening to the rubbish sound at home and in clubs it was all the time bass heavy (almost my situation) and when heard a well put up system, he too finds these finer sounds on the bright side.

I am buying this argument right now as I am not finding the brightness going up any further and may be couple of months down the line, I will go for next round of changes / auditions in home.

Thanks everyone for helping me figure out the right stuff.

What about if you DONT expect to hear differences but you do? (like I did when I very first tried a mains cable out)

So listening to bass heavy loud club music makes the hifi sound thin. That makes sense. I have to put up with terrible little radios at work, which make my kit sound all the better.
