KDL-40W5500 vs KDL-37W5500?

Hi all,

Long time reader, first time poster!

I'm currently trying to decide between the two models above, our local sony centre has both available for £849.00 with a free (!) Blu Ray DVD player (the Sony BDP-S360). Space for either doesn't appear to be much of an issue and both sets come with a 5 year guarantee. Having done quite a bit of reading around both models, there seems to be few mentions of problematic backlighting - so my question to you all, which would you purchase and why? Are there any other models I should be considering?

i'm looking at these 2 as well.dont get to huge up on backlight probs it cant be every sony tv! how many do they sell compared to others brands.some reports on web suggest blacks are better on 40" set can what hifi 2nd this.should be looking at these at richer sounds soon hope they let me have a play with them.just want a good tv for games bluray and hd footie!

Yeah it is a bit of a minefield!

The other option is to go with a Panasonic TX-P37X10B from John Lewis for £499 (including 5yr Guarantee) leaving the extra cash to go towards a blu ray player (and maybe start to fund my surround sound system!) - downside of this is that the Pana plasma isn't full HD.

Well after much thought, i've gone with the KDL-40W5500 - with the current trade in offer it's the same price as the 37inch - I liked the picture on both sets and the extra size should suit our living room a little better. Also got it on the assurance that should I have any problems with backlighting I can take it back for an exchange. Once I have the set in my possession I'll send an update. And now I need to go shopping for Blu Rays!
