Can you imagine?

I can, I'm a design led forward thinker (or at least that's what I'm pad for). Every day I have to struggle all kinds of people providing they have money. The only thing that comes to note from working in my business is that I struggle for words every single time someone mentions something . Such is our business.

bretty:Hey momo,

I'm really, really happy with them. The strengths I noted in the original posts have improved more over the last two weeks, so I guess there must be something to the 'burn in' time, thing.

The one attribute of the sound which has pleased me more than any other is the treble. It is now so clear and smooth. At high volumes, my system had a tendency to harden up the treble and made some albums unlistenable. Not any more. Just silky, silky treble. Im a bit of a drummer, so i'm always listening out for them and i've never heard cymbols sound like it, they are amazingly life-like, with each hit of, say, a ride being picked out beautifully and gradually fading out. Not cutting out early like I am used to hearing.

I'm definitely going to bi-wire these. I know it's hotly debated, whether it has any merit, but my speakers recommend it and for fifty quid, I can't go wrong.

Hope you find this helpful. momo.

Thanks for taking the time.

I have some Odyssey 4 at home to try out. Those Van Dammes might be the next one on the list. At least it's quite inexpensive, so definitely worth a try. Cheers!

Well, I've had the Van Damme's for just over a month and have just gone over the 100 hour mark.

The improvement in treble clarity that I mentioned in my previous posts happened very quickly, after maybe 10 hours.

However, the improvement in low end just kept coming and coming as the listening hours racked up.

This is my first cable upgrade and really expected an improvement, but for it to be quite subtle. This hasn't been the case, as the cable has changed the characteristics of the amp. To be honest, although the Cyrus is beautiful to listen to with any acoustic, classical or electronica, it's lean nature meant rock or metal (which makes up a fair chunk of my audio pallette) was un-involving. Now the amp seems to have grunt when required, giving back the crunch to the guitars of Pantera and the Deftones, without losing the stunning detail on the acoustic/classical stuff.

I was considering upgrading the amp before I bought this cable. Not any more.

I'm now firmly in three camps of hi-fi opinion:

1. Speaker cables aren't all the same. They DO make a difference.

2. After market mains cables DO work. (I have a Copper Line Aplha)

3. 'Burn-in' isn't a myth.

I use Van Damme speaker cable, the 4mm Sq stuff, not bi-wired, I just make links out of the same cable rather than use the horrible brass things the speaker makers supply. I swopped out some Chord stuff for the Van Damme when I re arranged the room. I did notice a huge difference between the chord and the van damme, about 4 or 5 hundred quid I think. (11m runs), the sound stayed pretty much as was. It could be the changes you are seeing are down to the amps seeing a much better load from the heavy copper cable, and can drive that load, plus the speakers much better, letting the sound and detail from the amp come through.

As you may have guessed I am a tad sceptical about the huge changes given by cable (of any type) beyond silver/silver plated/ plain old copper, and generaly find that one well made cable performs pretty much the same as any other well made cable.

When I changed the room I moved the 'boxes' to one end, with the speakers at the other, and getting the gear well away from the speakers has brought such a huge change that hiding the cable runs is well worth the effort.
