Just bought a MAC - can someone help please........

I have connected an external harddrive to my macbook pro, which has about 1600 tunes at the moment. I then imported the folder into itunes and it does this, but then it automatically starts copying all of the songs to the laptop harddrive, which is what i don't want.

Is there anyway this can be stopped?

You need to tell your mac that the iTunes library is located on your hard drive. Go to iTunes Preferences - Advanced and click the 'Change' button, then locate your drive. You'll want to tick the 'Keep........' and 'Copy.......' options too.
