Ronald Archiebald:Wasn't this already done in a previous 'Big Question' where all three participants could not see any difference in picture quality between a Sony BDP-S370 and a Sony BDP-S5000ES?

Yes, but this time there's a twist.

well im sure the s760 would be fine, just bear in mind it wont have i player, and it wont play mkv files etc, but for dvd's and blu-rays id say its more than good enough, i dont know anything about the various types of cables mav..

Max you seem to be encouraging mav to spend money before you've worked out what's wrong. I suspect the 370 (a fantastic player) just needs to be set to output the right signal. Mav - have you tried to get the player to downmix to stereo and see what that sounds like?

I'm not up enough on blurry to know whether they still carry plain old Dolby or dots soundtracks, which is doubtless all the H-K can handle (if even those).

JD, yes, every Bru-l‚e is required to carry at least one of these legacy soundtracks - Dolby, DTS or PCM - to ensure it's still playable in situations just like this.

mav, i dont know anything about your harmon cardon avr, how powerful it is, how it may compare to a modern avr etc, but have you considered a new avr? im not saying you should or need to buy one, but you can get some great bargains at the moment, my own avr, the yamaha rxv-765 was going for only £200 lately, at richer sounds i believe.

then you would have a new avr and blu-ray player, as opposed to ,im presuming, selling your bdp-s370 and getting a bdp with multi channel outs? if thats what your planning? just something to consider, perhaps you want to keep your hc? but there are cheap modern alternatives..
