I’d been toying with the idea of getting a cassette deck for a few years now. tbh, probably as much for aesthetics as the fun of playing the few tapes I own, and maybe collecting a few more.

Last year I saw a photo from the Maverick hifi show of the most incredible cassette deck in someone’s setup. After some enquiries I found the user & he kindly told me it was a Tandberg TCD-330.

The price of decent quality decks had stifled any impulse buys, and given the price of the Tandbergs I’d forgotten about them. Until an old eBay search popped up this morning with a fully-working, boxed model for an extremely sensible price.

Will have to pay some import from Germany, but I can’t wait to try it out 😃

Not seen that before. I think it looks great!

I still have my Kenwood cassette deck. Bought it brand new back in the late 90’s and never used it much so it’s still in great shape.

I just keep it for nostalgia more than anything but I still have a few albums and audiobooks (Hobbit, Lord of the Rings) I will play occasionally.

Whatever happened to DAT?
You can buy recorders & tapes still. Both are pretty expensive. I used them a bit for recording on the go years back,

I’m definitely on the nostalgia side of it 😊

What model is your deck? I’ll go and check out your setup in the other thread for photos.

That one was as common as muck in the 70s (Possibly early 80s) and was a decent deck. (As was most Tandberg products), as it could be used flat or vertical, they then went on to release some really top-notch units.
Interesting video here (And as you would expect being personal it will not match everybody's list), but worth a view.

Still have my Yamaha deck purchased in 1990. Have a few tapes I still play, mainly mixtapes I made but a few tapes where the album is not on streaming services
The only reason I kept my Sony WM-D6C professional Walkman for so long.
Tapes of pub bands I recorded myself.
Sadly Iet it go last year.
Got a great price for it though....

Funnily enough @Shrek it literally arrived 30 minutes ago. Looks pretty cool. Just not sure where I’m going to put it. And I’ve got no room to store it’s original box 😂

Still, looking forward to testing it later on.

It came with instructions too. It’s from Germany & don’t have an adapter plug so need to grab one of those.

It wound look great on a wall. You can buy feet for them so it’s more sturdy when standing up. Excited to hear cassettes again 😃

Did you get the Adapter ??
Amazon sent me the wrong one three times 😂

Finally got it up & working. First I had to figure out how to get a sound from the unit, which stumped me until I realised that I needed to switch on the analogue input on my preamp. And I can rename it, so that’s fun. Found you have to press the monitor button down to get any sound. It works!

It’s a lot of fun, and have to say there is something to love about the v lofi sound.

Didn’t take me long to get through my cassette collection, although I might do something about that. First time I’ve ever listened to my band’s old album that was released on cassette 10 or so years ago.

I must say, the Dodie album doesn’t sound bad at all. And it’s exactly the kind of record that treats the eq warmth like a big hug. I could get down with more of this, if only cassette pressings were consistent. It’s smaller than vinyl, but can be just as particular.

Oh, and fast-forward & rewind is a blast ❤️
