I was in HMV this morning buying some CDs and they were playing Joe Bonamassa “The ballad of John Henry” which sounded pretty good to me. I was tempted to buy but have bought before by listening to stuff when walking around a store and then not liked when I got home. Has anyone got this and can anyone recommend this. What’s it similar to?. My taste is mainly 70s rock bands etc.
Thanks

Haven`t heard it myself but this guy is very highly rated and the album got a cracking review in this months Classic Rock magazine.

Blues-rock produced by Kevin Shirley who worked on Led Zeppelin`s recent DVD re-issues. The albums described as having a sweaty, swampy feel with lethal tone control! It got 9 out of 10 and sounds like it could be worth checking out.

Thanks Survivor, I thought you or Nandjg may come back on this, I think I may give it a try unless anyone advises against. If I buy it I'll post what I think but it may be Easter before I get a chance to purchase

If you like this sort of thing you might do well to check out Black Stone Cherry if you haven't already!

its great album, check out Rory Gallagher,s version of the track..As the crow flies....much more raw.You and Me is another great Bonamassa album.

Brilliant album, his 9th (including 2 live albums) is quiute brilliant and possibly best - although to be fair his last 'Sloe Gin' - was his best etc etc.

I first heard him (from a free cd with Classic Rock) doing a cover of Led Zep's 'Tea for one' and immediately went out and bought the album, 'You & I' - that was about 3 years ago. I now have all his albums and have seen him live once at the Holmfirth Picturedome (fleapit) and am going to see him again on Bank Holiday weekend at the Royal Albert Hall (not a fleapit) - can't wait!!!!

You & I, Sloe Gin, Live from nowhere in particular & TBoJH are all produced by Kevin Shirley and are definite steps forward from his earlier output but I personallly think all are worth checking out. If you enjoy 'classic rock' you'll be well impressed I'm sure he's an awesome guitarist.

Thanks Nandjg. I found someone at work who has got Sloe Gin on MP3 so I'm going to get a copy of that off him to have a listen and if I like it I will probably buy both albums on CD or maybe on vinyl. I hope I like it because it's a long time since I have heard anyone new that I like.

Let me know how you get on I don't think you'll be disappointed. Incidentally the studio album before Sloe Gin is called You & me - not You & I as I stated previously (I'm getting old and forgetful I think!!)
