I have a japanise 20gig ps3 which bought in 2006 whilst i was in japan. Today i connected a friends UK PAL ps3 to my system via HDMI ( I have a sony DA820 amp connected to a 7.1 setup) and i noticed the sound was inferior to my PS3. The difference wasnt massive but their was a difference. Is their a difference in the spec of a japanise PS3 and a PAL PS3

Andrew, didn't they put SACD back? I was intending to get a PS3 and sell my SACD players for that reason.

The lack of SACD playback on the more recent models is doubly silly given that the v ery senior audio people at Sony had been putting a lot of effort into fine-tuning of the PS3 to make its audio performance even better.

I heard one of the tuned PS3s running into what was then the company's flagship AV receiver a couple of years back in Sony's Shinagawa HQ, and it sounded awesome.
