Hi all,

Wondering whether someone can help.

My son has been given his mum's old iPhone (4s) and has tried to hook it up to iTunes. He says it recognises his phone but he can't sync it. I don't use iTunes so I can't help him. Anyone got any idea what he should do please?

Thanks

Joel

Need to know what it says I think. In theory, it should say it's associated / linked to another iTunes and that he can change it to work with his, but this will erase everything on it. As long as that's okay, it should work fine. If he wants to keep what's already on the phone, then a different solution will be required. It's possible, but want to check this is the issue before I go off on this line!

He says it is just his download iTunes library and it's not to do with his old phone. He can't work out how to sync it so that the music transfers, have they changed the layout recently?

I remember I used iTunes a few years back a couple of times and found it totally confusing, and gave up.

Also, check that the iTunes version on whatever computer he is using is up to date as older versions won't sync with the newer Apple phones.

Can't he just do a master reset on the iPhone and then go from there, as long as he doesn't mind wiping his Mum's old phone memory / downloads / contacts etc ....

Assuming his iTunes version is up to date and assuming he's agreed to any prompts to trust the computer, then when he connects the iPhone, he should see a button in the top right hand corner indicating his iPhone:

Click on this, and then he should see options of what he wants to sync from that iTunes library (so click on Music from the list at the top to choose which music syncs):

That should be it!
