I have the old PS3 and was contemplating getting a sepperate "budget" Blue Ray player, (sony 760) but reading some of the threads there is little point. This leads me to question if I should just sell my 11 month old PS3 "fat" version and get the slim. It is conected to the Onk 605 then to a 4 year old Panasonic plasma via QED HDMI cables.

ANyone got any advice / experience to help guide me to an informed decission?

I have both, the slim is very noisy but does bit stream HD audio codecs and also uses about 40% less power than the fat one. Which is why i switched.

There is not a lot of difference between the 2 PS3's apart from the audio decoding previously mentioned. Performance on Blu ray and dvd playback is exactly the same. If you want to change then by all means do so, but in my opinion its not really worth it as your not really getting anything much differnet. I would invest in the sony s760 as it anhilates the ps3's blu ray and dvd playback to shreds. DVD playback is particulary impressive on it and is miles better than the average upscale on the ps3

It annihilates it to shreds ey? That sounds pretty, ehm, well messy.

Seriously though, I would appreciate some more information on this issue. I have also been thinking about upgrading from a PS3 to something like the s760. Having read the PS3 review it actually seems to be pretty good for blu-ray playback.

I use an Infocus X10 which provides a large and sharp enough image to note a difference from the BD player. Would the switch make an appreciable difference, and if so, how would it be visible (e.g. sharpness, motion, colours)?

Thanks
