Is it possible to buy Philips ambilight strips to put around my TV?

Yes. Buy a Phillips TV and they come free. But why anyone would want them is anyone's guess.

Anyway, since Chrimbo is over, you could always pop down to Argos and buy some fairy lights half price...

You could use fixed LED strips to light the back wall.

I've used coloured GU10s in a fitting above the TV. They shine down a plain backwall, using RGB you can have any colour, including white. with nice overlaps. (The wall looks better than most of the stuff on TV)

These are what I used (when they cost a fiver each!):

This old classic nicely shows the RGB mixing:

Cheers guys! Very interesting. I like the sound of your idea BB.

I heard about this product from a colleague, it's called DreamScreen and I think this should do what you want. I've just found out that WHF mentioned it in Feb last year.

Really?

Pure marketing hyperbole, I don't have an issue with the product but the BS the marketing people come up with gets my goat.

They're alluding to the fact that Philips Hue can display 16 million colours. You can set as many scenes you want for different moods.

That’s interesting Al still not available yet I think though. Looking back through the posts I am thinking of BB’s suggestion and now I got my TV sorted I am ready to do something about it. BB do you know how much I would need for my 65-inch TV? Cheers.

I am thinking the lightbulb thing will work and it will be cheap?

Can I get these lights from anywhere else? Thanks

2 X 2m lightstrip is what you'll need. TBH, it's more of a gimmick. You'll stop using it in a few weeks.
BB I am thinking about the lightbulb thing now instead, I need LED candle bayonet lights though. Any ideas where to get them from?

BB what about this:

I don't know about this one, but I had one from visual chillout. The quality was really poor.
