Ipod Sound quality

I'm considering buying a ipod classic to do my bedroom listening on. I was just wondering what kind of priced seperates system do Ipods match up to. I would be using HD595 headphones and somekind of headphone amp and lossless format. My hifi atm is The nad c352/c521bee and AE Alite 3s. Would the ipod match up to this or be better/worse?

Difficult to compare a top-notch headphone system with a modest speakered system, IMO - I suspect you'll think it's amazing in comparison.

Thats what i wanted to hear 🙂 Do you know of any headphone amps which can be used with Ipods?

Any, really - iPod doesn't have the best analogue output ever, but get a decent quality headphone-to-2xRCA cable (gotham do one for about a tenner on eBay), and pretty much any headphone amp will work.

Or use the dock connector to RCA (for instance as sold by Russ Andrews) to get a line level output to the headphone amp?

Yeah sorry, dock might give you a better connection (and charge).........

I've got a Belkin dock for mine, and it makes a huge difference through both my basic 2nd system and my Naim/MA system when compared to a headphone jack-RCA cable...
