iPhone 17 Air £820 at Amazon

Not sure about the eSIM and how that works though, anyone with any input on that eSIM, a quick look on Google seems to suggest you use an App to use a phone deal.

With eSIM your chosen mobile provider send you a QR code (containing their carrier profile) which you scan with the camera on the device you want to install it on, then just follow the on screen instructions to activate it. It takes seconds.

Still doesn't make a £800+ phone a "hot deal"
I didn't say it was but, on the other hand, I bought my iPhone 12 in March 2021 and don't expect to replace it until 2028, when the security updates run out and, the battery will be getting a bit tired. As for Android, even Google Pixel phones only get 5 or 6 years of updates, depending on version. https://endoflife.date/pixel Most Android phones run out of updates much sooner.

I don't think you're typical, particularly for iPhone users .

Most people buy phones through their mobile provider and will upgrade when their contract allows.

From Pixel 8 they get 7 years...

Being atypical is fine with me, frequent upgrading is just wasteful.

Unfortunately many, maybe most, other Android phones don’t get that many years. My last Andriod phone was a Samsung Galaxy S8, it got 2 years updates, then nothing, that may not be typical now.

Things have moved on somewhat in the 10 years since you last owned an Android phone.

Samsung's Galaxy S range get 7 years of updates. Not sure about their budget ranges.

Budget Chinese phones will still only get a few years, but then you can buy 3 or 4 for the average cost of an iPhone
