Hello, after reviewing several alternatives, I am considering the possibility of adding a "power amplifier" to my AV configuration for the main speakers. Over the past years I have changed my system several times but, I have never been satisfied with music. I have asked my Hi-Fi dealear and he suggested to me this option because he insisted that I would not gain musicallity by replacing the current receiver by a new one unless I was willing to spend more than 2000 Eur. Has anybody tried this? Would it really give the expected result? I am a bit concerned about the volume levels of the 5 chanels if they are amplified by different systems.

My current system is: Onkyo 701E, B&W 685 front, Wharfedale 9CM and CS for the rest. No sub.

Thanks, Pablo

Hello, all sources are currently linked to the receiver Onkyo 701E: IPOD, DVD, PS2 and VCR. My idea was to leave all sources linked to the receiver just as they are now and use the receiver as pre-amp for the main 2 channels. Everything would remain as it is except that the main 2 channel would be amplified separately by a stereo power amplifier. Would this work and make it more musical? Is this the best way of making a multichanel receiver good for stereo music without need to spend a lot more?

Any comment will be appreciated. Many thanks, Pablo.

OK, thanks! No options left so, I will wait until I am rich and I can change my receiver by a 2000 Eur one ;-)
