I Tunes library on NAS not being picked up by control apps

Hi, I have my i tunes library on a Buffalo Linkstation NAS (about 3 years old now) ripped from a Toshiba laptop. The files are all in WAV except for three albums that are in ALAC. I have tried a Denon streaming device and a B&W Zeppelin and neither control app picked up any of the WAV files on my NAS. They both picked up the ALAC files but there was no album art work. I have a third generation BT router and have tried both wired and wireless connections but to no avail. I currently run a Pure Audio i pod dock using the coax out into a PS Audio Digital Link dac. I would like to replace the dock with a proper streamer but don't want to do this until I can solve the above mentioned problem.

Anyone any ideas whats wrong?

Bit of a guess but, wav files have no potential to store associated metadata (track, artist, album etc) unlike for example flac, alac, mp3. The control apps you're using are probably written to deal with formats with id tags. A list of the supported file formats should be available for each app.

If this is the issue you could use something like dbpoweramp to convert from wav to alac, not sure how you can populate the id tags though. Itunes should also convert your files, see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550, make sure you chose a lossless format if converting your wavs.

Does itunes display the artwork not shown by tha apps?

My I tunes library is fine. I've only tried the downloaded apps from the manufacturer without any success. I have spoken to Denon's technical department, sent them a couple of the files, but they couldn't come up with a solution.

As any app/streamer/media server will only be able to read and list the file name of a wav, I'd sugest converting them to a lossless format that supports metadata. This will make browsing a lot easier, e.g. by artist, genre, etc.

I'd sugest testing one of your wavs by converting it to ALAC with itunes and seeing if it's usable . You could make a backup copy of it first if you're concerned anbout losing something. I'm not sure but I think Itunes may also automatically populate the metadata for you.

Thanks for that I'll give it a try. I have seen Naim's unitiserve in action using WAV files and that seems to be fine. Out of my price range I'm afraid!
