i pod dock

I am looking to purchase an i-pod dock to run through my quad 99 cdp which has optical and digital inputs. The onkyo nds1 has a great write up as does the arcam ir dock. I would appreciate any help regarding how to set it up regarding which input/cable to use as i am not very tech minded. I have an i pod touch 3rd generation/and nano 5th gen.

I'd use the electrical digital output from the Onkyo dock to any one of the three electrical digital inputs on the Quad.
