Hi there! I was wondering if someone out there can help?

I am looking at buying a new TV. By the measurements of my lounge and how far i will be sitting from from the TV i think i can go as high as a 40inch screen.

Having been into a variety of shops and read the reviews in this months magazine i am pretty torn between the Samsung LE40A656 and the Sony KDL-40W4000.

Other than the usual watching sport and films etc i have every intention of hooking up my PS3 as well.

I do not have Sky HD (or any other HD source) and as such will mainly be looking at standard TV signal (unless i can find a way of upgrading that) but i do have blu ray discs which i use on my PS3.

Can anyone offer me any advice on which TV might suit me better or is it mainly down to personal choice?

Many thanks for your help!

Budget - i would say up to about £1400 for a TV

Viewing distance - i reckon i am about 12 ft away. Maybe a bit more.

Sitting 12ft away you could consider upto 50" TV.

You need to think about the Pioneer or Panasonic plasmas at these sizes (42,46,50")

Pioneer 428X, 4280X, 508..

Panasonic 42/46PZ80, 42/46PZ85, 50PX8....

At these sizes the plasma screens do seem to get more recommendations than LCDs, though the latest Sony 40W4000 has had some good reviews. There are lots of threads about the Pioneer and Panasonic plasmas in these forums.

I would definately go for the 4280X from Pioneer... but you'll have to be quick, they have stopped making them and they are selling out. Or you could wait for the new Pioneers, but there won't be any 42in sets anymore
