Calibrated image can appear less dynamic if you are used to seeing a screen with a too high gamma or a skewed gamma at the top end. I think this makes the tv image stand out more in certain content because its brighter which is appealing to the eye naturally.

But if you side by sided the 2 one would look right and balanced the other wouldnt.

Thats just a pure guess without seeing either.

My LG LED in our extension I like actually, I have been watching it quite a lot lately and I can imagine with a much better black level giving a richer colour palette would be really good.

That is until you notice DSE and other artifacts. I am sitting 15 feet away from it - that distance hides a multitude of sins

Cheers! Yep, I like LG TVs too. I can't say there is anything wrong with the Panasonic, I think it was just because I was used to such a bright image.

It looked to have too much contrast in your photos to me, but we have debated the photo issue a lot

Brightness is what sells by all accounts so not surprised you liked it - you can calibrate a mega bright picture if you want it but I dare say Gordon went for 35ftl on day and 30ftl or similar night - did you get any calibration info?

Nick said I could get detailed reports if I wanted them but couldn't be asked. I was just rotating between night and day mode for the first time. I do like night a lot by the looks of it.

The reason you're feeling that way is because all your viewing today is 1080p and not 4K. So all picture is being upscaled. Add to it a bigger size TV than your previous will result in some loss of sharpness in comparison with your 1080p LG TV. Hence my suggestion of waiting until there's enough 4K content to justify the purchase.

Yep, that makes sense.

Oled 0 blacks means you don't need bt1886 you can just have power gamma 2.4 happy days.
With the supposed just a above black performance of the panny it should be spot on for shadow detail while you keep the lovely lush 2.4 gamma image.

I am gel of that fact
