Hey, iv had my 40HX803 for about 2 weeks now and until last night iv absolutely loved it. I was watching a christmas carol on 3d blu ray and the crosstalk was absolutely awful, it made it quite unwatchable at times. I only found minimal crosstalk with other discs but this was just terrible. I was aware that the set had crosstalk upon reading the review, but never thought it was this bad. Anyway i am thinking of returning my set, but would like to know if there is any other sets out there for the same price with an equal 2d performance but better 3d??

Thank you.

Before you throw in the towel, is it not possible its just a very badly made disc? Bad crosstalk is bad crosstalk. It would be all or nothing. To be bad on only the one disc suggests to me its a badly made one.

Trust me, its not just your TV, i have the 46hx903, in my eyes a very expensive set, if you check my thread you can see my opinions on this set and on crosstalk its called: i finally have my hx903 ( and my opinions on the hx903) i think its the disk and not the tv as crosstalk on my tv is so inconsistant, try watching Monster House 3D and Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 3D in my eyes they are the best performers that i have tried thus far

I have a Samsung 46c8000 TV and that suffers from Cross Talk too and i can say A Christmas Carol is a very bad for it. It seems to be on my tv that darker scenes and especially small items which are dark and 3d at the same time suffer from this.

Sky Sport 3D for Football yesterday was bad for it too for certain players on the pitch which werent near the ball.

Ivew had my TV a week now and its starting to bug me!

i wouldnt bother replacing it, certainly not with any of the new panna sets anyway, if your adamant you want to replace it audition it with Christmas Carol as i suspect thats the reason you want to replace it, am i right?

When I compared the different 3D sets in the Manchester show, the Panasonic 50 inch VT20 had no cross talk that I could see, as compared to the Samsung or Sony or Philips.

Crosstalk depends on how fast the TV can swap from the left eye image to the right eye image and then back to the left eye image again. It has always been the case that the response time of a plasma (around 0.001 milliseconds) is much, much quicker than of an LCD. That's why plasmas don't suffer from cross talk as compared to LCDs.

Another factor which affects crosstalk in LCD panels is heat. A cold panel cannot perform as well as a hot panel, because the liquid crystals cannot twist as quickly, which causes crosstalk issues. As an LCD TV heats up, the liquid crystals in the panel become less viscous and are thus more agile. 3D LCDs need a run-in time of between 60 and 90 minutes in order to achieve a reasonable quality. This is not the case with plasma.

You already have bought the Sony TV. Check for crosstalk after switching the TV on for 90 minutes or so. If you still find it unacceptable, check the same disc on the Panasonic & decide for yourself.

So let me get this right, you have a tv that you love and you say it is brilliant in 2d but just because one 3d blu ray not being very good you now want rid? even though you have been happy with the other 3d blu rays, if i was you i would be happy with what you have.

Well after spending that much money on a tv i expect it to work as it should. Other 3d films have the same problem, just not as much. What would you have me do? Deal with it? Im sorry, but when a tv suffers from that much crosstalk and also has to vertical lines coming from the edge of the screen im not going be happy with it.

Sorry to course such a fuss.

I have the Panasonic GT20 and crosstalk is rarely noticable when watching blurays. But fire up the PS3 and play motorstorm and any bright objects on a dark background will highlight the issue.

So I would stick the TV that you already have. On my set up, changing the HDMI cable made not a jot of difference to the cross talk. Whether I used the most expensive High speed cable I have or the 'free in a box' one the issue was still present in motorstorm. I cannot remember what source you are using but it may be worth experimenting in that area it could be different players handle poorer quality films better

If your that unhappy with it, take it back, but don't be under the impression than any TV is perfect, they all have there issues, you just have to work out which ones least bother you.

Just so I understand, we're talking about the 3D Blu Ray release of A Christmas Carol which, according to bluray.com (a source I consider reliable), "features a wonderful full HD 3D Blu-ray presentation that's pushed its way towards the top of the currently-available 3D
titles."

The review concludes that "Disney's 3D transfer is a thing of beauty and is currently the definitive wide-release Blu-ray 3D transfer." In other words, prior to the 3D Blu-ray release of Avatar, this was the go-to disc for 3D demo material.

If you're not happy with playback of 3D content on the 803, I'd have a word with the retailer. Don't think you have to lump-it as some other posters suggest.

I would double check your HDMI cable s AlienRik has alreay suggested and possibly get a quick home trial of something like the Wireworld Chroma 6 or similar....could be a reasonably cheap fix (compared with returing a tv and all the legwork involved with finding a replacement)

cant see how changing hdmi cables will help? if it was the cable (which is extremely unlikely imo) then the crosstalk would be just as bad on all 3d movies, which the op says isn't the case...

Different movies have different bandwidth rates

Cross talk issues on LED and LCD TVs is all to do with the response time of the TV. Plasma is near 1ms and TFT is something like 3-6ms - LCD and LED TVs hand around 30-50ms which causes cross talk due to the TV not being able to keep up

All the cables in the world wont help as its an issue with the TV. I find allowing the TV to run in before watching 3D helps so its nice and warm as 2nd half of football is always better than the first for crosstalk.

Play around with setting and i believe motion processing etc etc slows the resonse time of the tv (delay)
