Ideally the TT and speakers should not be on the same surface.
Also, ensure the TT is well away from any sources of electrical interference (such as transformers and motors).

Make that mains earth connection permanent. Get a mains plug, most have removable pins.
Remove the live and neutral pins - leave only the earth and secure your earth lead to it.
